ADI's LTM4660 complete 300 W output switch-mode mixed-topology step-down DC/DC μModule (micromodule) non-isolated bus converter provides an efficient/high-density and cost-effective solution for power distribution, datacom, and telecom applications. Its exposed power inductor is located on top of the package, providing an inherent path for heat to dissipate and leave the module, away from the printed circuit board. The package includes the switch controller IC, power mosfet, and supporting components. Only flying (charge pump) capacitors, lots of input and output bypass capacitors, and few configuration passives are required.

The LTM4660 features frequency synchronization, Burst Mode® operation, output voltage soft-start and tracking. With short-circuit, over-current, over-temperature protection functions. On-board temperature diodes are available for temperature monitoring. Multiple LTM4660 modules can be easily paralleled for higher power applications. Housed in a 16mm × 16mm × 10.34 mm BGA package, the terminations are RoHS compliant.

Demonstration circuit DC2879A is a high efficiency, high power density hybrid converter. It can supply 12v/25a with an input voltage of 36v to 60v (up to 65v during transients). The demo board features the LTM4660, which uses an architecture that combines a soft-switched switched capacitor topology with a traditional buck converter to provide superior efficiency compared to traditional switching architectures.
