Toshiba Electronics Europe LTD has released A new Normally Open (NO) 1-FORM-A optical relay for A number of battery and hybrid vehicle applications, including BMS internal, ground fault detection and mechanical relay fault identification.

The supply voltage (VDD) of the device is up to 1000V, ensuring compatibility with most traction batteries. The new TLX9160T includes an infrared light-emitting diode optically coupled to a photoelectric mosfet and is its first device with a high output voltage withstand (VOFF) of at least 1500V

The creepage distance of the product is at least 5mm, ensuring compatibility with 1000V power supply voltage defined by IEC60664-1. Therefore, the isolation voltage (BVS) is 5000Vrms (min) and the internal creepage and clearance is 8mm. The device is installed in an improved SO16L-T package made of resin material in IEC60664-1 material group I, which has a CTI of over 600. The device is missing 4 pins (11 to 14 pins removed from the standard SO16L package).

The maximum forward current (IF) is 30mA, while the open current (ION) is 50mA and the off current (IOFF) is only 100nA. The unit is fully aEC-Q101 compliant and has operating temperatures (Topr) from -40 ° C to +125 ° C, making it ideal for rugged automotive environments.
